Pupillage / Tenancy

Tenancy

Applications to join 1JRC as tenants should be addressed to Mr. Cheng Huan SC by post. Applicants must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae with a recent photograph (for identification purposes only). Applicants may also include such other relevant material as he or she thinks necessary. Please mark “Tenancy” on the envelope.

Pupillage

1JRC invites applications from candidates who have completed or are enrolled in the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) who intend to practice at the Hong Kong Bar. Pupils work closely with their pupil master and other members of Chambers and may assist with legal research, drafting, case preparation, and court work.

Applicants for pupillage should apply approximately 12 months before the intended commencement of pupillage.

Mini-Pupillage

1JRC generally offers two-week mini-pupillages to law students interested in practising at the Hong Kong Bar. Most mini-pupillages are offered during the summer and winter periods.

Mini-pupillage provides an opportunity to observe the work of practicing barristers and gain insight into life at the Bar. Mini-pupils may attend court hearings, observe conferences (subject to client consent), and undertake limited legal research or drafting tasks at the discretion of their supervising barrister.

All applications for pupillage and mini-pupillage are assessed based on merit by the Pupillage Committee. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview.

Applications for pupillage and mini-pupillage should be addressed to the Pupillage Committee and are to be submitted by email to:

pupillage@1jrc.com

Applicants must include a cover letter, academic transcript, curriculum vitae with a recent photograph (for identification purposes only). Applicants may also include such other relevant material as he or she thinks necessary.

The application deadline for summer and winter mini-pupillage is 30 April and 30 October of each year respectively. Late applications will not be considered.
