Practice Profile
Edward Tang maintains a dual practice spanning regulatory and white-collar crime matters, as well as complex civil and commercial disputes. Called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2011, Edward has developed a particular focus on regulatory matters since 2018. His regulatory practice encompasses alleged breaches of the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571), contraventions of the Listing Rules, market misconduct, corporate governance, and investigations involving listed companies. He is regularly instructed by listed companies, directors and other market participants in connection with investigations by the Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, including matters concerning fitness and properness, misconduct and compliance obligations. Edward’s regulatory work extends naturally into white-collar crime. He has acted for senior executives and listed companies in high-profile criminal trials and appeals, including as counsel for the former Chief Executive Officer of Convoy Global Holdings in proceedings arising from joint investigations by the Securities and Futures Commission and the ICAC, both at trial and on appeal. Alongside his regulatory practice, Edward maintains a substantial civil and commercial practice. He has appeared at all levels of the Hong Kong courts, both as sole counsel and as junior counsel in larger teams, and has extensive experience in complex proceedings across a wide range of areas. His work includes professional negligence claims, contentious probate, shareholder and company disputes, insolvency-related matters, applications for injunctive relief, and arbitration. Recent highlights include successfully defending a firm of solicitors against allegations of professional negligence; upholding the will of a prominent Singaporean magnate in contentious probate proceedings; and succeeding for the claimant in HKIAC arbitration proceedings concerning shares in a PRC investment company valued at over RMB500 million. Edward is ranked in Chambers and Partners for White-Collar Crime; recognised as a “Leading Junior” for Regulatory, Investigations and Crime in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific: Hong Kong Bar, and recommended in Doyle’s Guide for criminal law barristers in Hong Kong. With a reputation for mastering legally and factually intricate matters with precision and sound judgment, he is a trusted advocate in both regulatory and commercial disputes.
