Prior to commencing practice at the Bar, Kade served as a Senior Detective Police Inspector at the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau, where he gained substantial front-line experience in the investigation of serious and complex crime. Upon being awarded the Sir Oswald Cheung Scholarship, an award conferred on the top candidate intending to practise at the Bar, Kade resigned from the Police to commence his legal career. During his legal studies, he achieved an overall Distinction, which is equivalent to First Class Honours, placing him among the top of his cohort, and was awarded subject prize and an overseas study scholarship. He then read law at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained a Master of Law degree, specialising in criminal justice, information law and the law of restitution, in which he was awarded with 1st Class. He was also the General Editor of the Cambridge International Law Journal. Kade was later selected by the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), United Nation at the Hague to assist in the appeal proceedings of genocide and grave breaches of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. He then served pupillage with Cheng Huan QC, SC and thereafter joined the former Cheng Huan SC Chambers with a focus on criminal law. He has particular experience in criminal litigation, regulatory enforcement and white-collar crime matters. He is regularly instructed to advise and represent clients including listed companies in investigations conducted by law enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the Police Force, the ICAC, the Immigration Department and the SFC. Kade is frequently engaged at the early stages of investigations to provide legal advice and case strategy. His practice also includes advocacy in criminal trials, appeals and restraint/confiscation-related matters. With his prior law enforcement experience and specialist criminal practice, Kade brings a rare combination of investigative insight, legal precision and trial advocacy. Kade has appeared at all levels of trial courts. He has also been instructed by the Department of Justice to prosecute cases as fiat counsel. He has recently represented clients in criminal cases that attracted significant media attention, including: ∙ A dangerous driving case in which the victim sustained injuries resulting in amputation following an incident, where the client ultimately received a Community Service Order (DCCC 63/2024). ∙ The defence and acquittal with cost awarded of a Police officer accused of molesting a female complainant during the taking of a statement in a Police Station (KCCC680/2026). ∙ Acted for a client to unfreeze assets worth nearly HK$20 million, which had been frozen under a Restraint Order made pursuant to s.15 of the Organized and Serious Crimes Ordinance, in connection with allegations that Japanese AV actresses had been arranged to work in Hong Kong (HCMP 1406/2025). ∙ A case involving multiple charges of unlawful employment by a sizable construction and design company, where despite a full admission under caution, the client was acquitted after trial with no case to answer (STCC 3275/2025). ∙ The defence and acquittal of a client who was alleged to have possessed a number of underage pornography items (DCCC980/2024). Kade also serves as a part-time law lecturer at the City University of Hong Kong, where he teaches criminal law to students on both the LLB and JD programmes.
